Abby Foster, LCSW

Why Work with Abby?

Individuals looking for more out of life, a change, a sense of direction, or some relief have sought out Abby’s services. Abby has helped people make significant gains after they have been stuck for years. She has helped people, who have various mental health disorders, navigate through life, as well as people struggling with self-confidence, relationships, grief and loss, and serious and chronic health issues. The reason Abby achieves great results with her patients is because she helps them figure out what factors and maladaptive patterns are getting in the way and preventing them from reaching their full potential.

Abby’s Approach

When working with Abby, patients can expect to feel her support and encouragement. Patients can expect her to be direct, to provide education and to challenge patients to meet their potential.  Patients can anticipate humor and laughter, to feel hopeful, and have a space to share things they are proud of and that matter. Successes are recognized and celebrated.

Abby’s approach incorporates a combination of therapeutic techniques; it is predominantly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based and also combines various other modalities of therapy and theories, some of which include, Exposure Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Gestalt Principles and mindfulness approach. Abby’s treatment style focuses on helping her patients reframe thoughts, reverse negative thinking, and gain a new perspective on what is contributing to anxiety, depression, OCD and various other mental health diagnoses and challenges in life.  Patients experience growth as they are actively involved in creating a plan to build effective skills, strategies, and confidence, resulting in changes in their behavior and functioning.  These plans are reinforced by individualized exercises Abby suggests, which are implemented outside of therapy sessions to allow patients to practice skills and strategies in real life settings and interactions. This allows people to overcome seemingly impossible challenges and get back to being healthy, productive and more of who they want to be.

Abby has worked in a variety of settings some of which include community organizations, private practices, medical facilities, and in the homes of her patients.  Her work as a Therapist, Medical Social Worker, Assistant Director of Camelot for Children and her personal experience as a childhood leukemia survivor has allowed her to gain a unique perspective, both professionally and personally.  Abby enjoys working with diverse populations and has experience with teenagers, adults, and seniors.  In addition to her professional work, Abby has volunteered and served as a public speaker for various community organizations.
